AI That is Too Dangerous for Release

AI That is Too Dangerous for Release

An #AI that was deemed too dangerous is now released into the world. Is in “in the wild?”. (See my novel Threshold, due out in early 2020).

Researchers concluded that “GPT-2” was so powerful that it could create synthetic propaganda. Just what we need at a time where the United States is more divided than any time since the Civil War. “Due to our concerns about malicious applications of the technology, we are not releasing the trained model,” wrote OpenAI.

GPT-2 can analyze a piece of text, then predict the words that will come next. This additional content is, for the most part, indistinguishable from those written by a human being. Essentially this is an AI that can act like humans and create massive disinformation, like Fusion GPS or Adam Schiff, as a powerful bot. Now that is scary.

Beta Reader Suggestions

Beta Reader Suggestions from Scott

Did the story hold your interest from the very beginning, i.e. does the story begin with an interesting hook? If not, why not?

How would you rate the story from 1-5? (5 being the highest)

What’s missing in this novel to make it a more compelling read?

Was there a point at which you felt the story lagged or you became less than excited about finding out what was going to happen next? Where, exactly?

Could you relate to the main character?

Were the characters believable? Are there any characters you think could be made more interesting or more likable?

Did the dialogue keep your interest and sound natural? If not, whose dialogue did you think sounded artificial or not like that person would speak?

Was there enough conflict, tension, and intrigue to keep your interest?

Was the ending satisfying? Believable? Surprising?

Feedback Helpers:

  • Mark key places in the manuscript for:
    • High emotion
    • Boredom
    • Confusion
  • I don’t understand… (whatever it is).
  • The pace seems… (too fast, too slow, just right).
  • Your story question seems to be… .
  • Are you confused about any character’s motivation and/or conflicts?

Thank you for your efforts. They are instrumental to creating a great novel.
