Scott supports The Sea Shepherd Conservation Society, an international non-profit, marine wildlife conservation organization. Established in 1977, who’s mission is to end the destruction of habitat and slaughter of wildlife in the world’s oceans in order to conserve and protect ecosystems and species. As opposed to “observe and report” organizations, Paul Watson’s Sea Shepard uses innovative direct-action tactics to investigate, document, and take action when necessary to expose and confront illegal activities on the high seas. In his novels, Scott writes about shadow organizations that take more effective action, such as using high-powered sniper rifles to eliminate poachers, or instead of disabling propellers, sinking the Yushin Maru, and other illegal poaching vessels.
